Welcome to Brighter Balance Counselling
At Brighter Balance, we believe that every person deserves a space where they feel truly heard, without judgement and without pressure to be anything other than where they are right now.
We offer warm, professional mental health support for individuals navigating some of life's most complex and tender experiences. Whether you are supporting a young person through anxiety or depression, finding your footing in the early seasons of parenthood, grieving a loss, or simply trying to make sense of where you are, we are here to help you find steadier ground.
Who We Are
Brighter Balance is led by an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker (AMHSW), recognised by the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW). This accreditation reflects a rigorous standard of clinical training and ongoing professional development, and means that eligible clients can access Medicare rebates under the Better Access to Mental Health Care initiative.
Our approach is deeply person-centred. We take the time to understand your unique circumstances, your strengths, and what matters most to you before we do anything else. From there, we draw on evidence-based therapeutic approaches to support you in a way that feels meaningful and grounded in your real life.
What We Specialise In
We have particular expertise in the following areas:
Children and adolescents, supporting young people to navigate the emotional and psychological challenges that can make growing up feel overwhelming. We work with children and teenagers experiencing anxiety, depression, low self-worth, school-related stress, and difficulties with emotions and behaviour. We understand that adolescence in particular can be a time of significant vulnerability, and we provide a safe, non-judgmental space where young people feel comfortable opening up and working towards feeling better.
Perinatal wellbeing and matrescence, holding space for the profound identity shifts, emotional complexity, and mental health challenges that can arise during pregnancy and the transition into motherhood. We recognise that becoming a mother can be both beautiful and deeply disorienting, and that support during this season matters enormously.
Parenting, working alongside parents and caregivers who are seeking support, greater connection with their children, or simply a space to process the very real demands of the role.
Grief and loss, offering compassionate support for those navigating bereavement, significant life transitions, and the many forms that loss can take. Grief does not follow a straight line, and we are here for all of it.
Our Approach
We know that reaching out for help takes courage. From your very first contact with us, you can expect to be met with warmth, respect, and genuine care. Sessions are tailored to you, and we work collaboratively to ensure the support you receive feels right for where you are and where you want to be.
We also offer professional training and development services for organisations and practitioners, bringing the same commitment to quality and care to our work with teams and services.

Our approach
We draw on a range of evidence-based theories and modalities, always guided by what suits you best. No two people are the same, and our work reflects that.
Our therapeutic toolkit includes Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) skills, and Narrative Therapy, each offering practical, structured ways to understand patterns, manage emotions, and move forward. For younger clients, Play Therapy provides a developmentally appropriate space to process and express experiences in the way children do naturally.
Underpinning everything is a deep commitment to trauma-informed practice and an understanding of Attachment Theory and Polyvagal Theory, which shape the way we make sense of relationships, the nervous system, and the very human need to feel safe. We always work at a pace that feels right for you.
